SCREEN
Alberto Ferreras is a filmmaker, digital storyteller, and creative consultant, whose work spans cultural institutions, branded content, and international festivals.
He is the creator and director of HBO’s acclaimed Habla documentary series, co-creator of the bilingual animated series El Perro y El Gato, and the mind behind award-winning projects like The Lessons, Kmart’s Madres y Comadres, and AARP’s Cada Paso del Camino.
His museum work includes the Smithsonian-commissioned video installation Somos, American Latinos 1935-1945 which premiered at Instituto Cervantes in New Yor, and Ciudades Durmientes at theMuseum of MOdern Art in Bogotá.
His branded-content career includes a three-year tenure as Creative Executive in Residence at TelevisaUnivision’s Así Studio, where he was one of the founding members. He has created celebrated campaigns such as Kmart’s Madres y Comadres, GSK’s ¿Qué es Shingles?, and AARP’s Cada Paso del Camino, all praised for their cultural authenticity and emotional resonance.
Across all mediums, Ferreras is known for crafting visually striking, culturally authentic, and emotionally resonant work.
IMMERSIVE VIDEO INSTALLATION
América Ibérica (2025) is an immersive video exhibition that explores the deep cultural, historical, and visual connections between the Iberian Peninsula and the Americas. Through archival photography from the Library of Congress, the installation traces how Spanish and Portuguese migrations shaped everyday life across the hemisphere—revealing shared identities, parallel experiences, and unexpected points of convergence. Presented at the Instituto Cervantes Lisboa in 2025, the exhibit invites viewers to see the Americas through an Iberian lens, and Iberia through the stories of its diasporas.

VIDEO INSTALLATION
Somos (2022) was commissioned in 2020 by the Smithsonian Institution as the first video installation created for the National Museum of the American Latino. This fifteen-minute piece explores themes of U.S. Latino identity, belonging, and assimilation, and was presented at the Molina Family Gallery inside the National Museum of American History from 2022 to 2025.

IMMERSIVE VIDEO INSTALLATION + LECTURE
American Latinos 1935–1945 (2024) is an immersive video installation that highlights the presence, labor, and everyday lives of Latino communities in the United States during the years surrounding the Great Depression and World War II. Using rarely seen images from the Farm Security Administration and the Office of War Information, the piece reframes this era through a Latino lens—revealing families, workers, soldiers, and community members who have long been overlooked in mainstream historical narratives. It premiered at the Instituto Cervantes New York, Adams State University, Baruch College, The New School, NYU Madrid and at the Prosperity Now Conference in 2025.

BRANDED CONTENT CAMPAIGN
¿Qué es Shingles? is an educational awareness campaign built around three short documentaries that explore the symptoms and impact of shingles within the Hispanic community. Featuring real patients who candidly share their personal journeys—alongside a medical expert who addresses common myths and misconceptions—the campaign offers clear, culturally resonant health information.

DOCUMENTARY SERIES
Habla (2003-2022) is a long-running documentary series from HBO that gives voice to U.S. Latinos through candid, personal storytelling. Each episode features a diverse range of Latino artists, activists, entrepreneurs, and everyday people speaking directly to the camera about identity, family, culture, and the challenges and triumphs of the Latino experience in America. Known for its intimate style and authenticity, Habla helped expand Latino representation on mainstream television and became one of HBO’s most enduring platforms for real, unscripted voices.

FEATURE FILM
¡Que Viva la Música! (2015) is a vibrant feature film adaptation of the cult novel by Colombian writer Andrés Caicedo. Set in the explosive cultural landscape of Cali in the 1970s, the movie follows a rebellious young woman who plunges into a world of rock, salsa, nightlife, and self-discovery. Directed by Carlos Moreno, the film captures the raw energy and emotional intensity of Caicedo’s original work, blending music and youth culture into a coming-of-age story with a distinct Latin American edge. The screenplay marked Alberto Ferreras’s screenwriting debut and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015.
SHORT FILM COLLECTION
The Lessons (2019-2020) is a collection of short films shot in just four hours, after a single rehearsal, yet the project went on to win both the Audience Award and the Best Alumni Film Award at the Sedona International Film Festival in 2020. It has also received honors and selections at festivals around the world, including Outfest, the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, the Hong Kong LGBT Film Festival, the Havana Film Festival New York, NewFest, Image + Nation, Roze Filmdagen, and NY Shorts. “Lesson #7” was licensed and aired on HBO US.
The cast includes Olga Merediz, Lou Liberatore, Suzanne Di Donna, John David West, David Fraioli, Ardes Quinn, Frank Solorzano and Shirley Rumierk.

Cada Paso del Camino (2017) is a heartfelt documentary created for AARP that shines a light on the lives of Latino family caregivers in the United States. Through intimate interviews and real stories, the film reveals the emotional, financial, and cultural realities of caring for aging or ill loved ones—often with little recognition or support.

CHILDREN’S ANIMATED SERIES
El Perro y el Gato (2003-2004) is a bilingual animated series created for HBO Family that uses humor, music, and fast-paced storytelling to introduce young audiences to Spanish and English in a playful, organic way. Featuring the comedic adventures of an excitable dog and a level-headed cat, the show blends cultural references with educational moments, helping children build language confidence while laughing along the way. Beloved for its energy and inclusivity, it became one of HBO’s signature programs for bilingual families.

BRANDED CONTENT WEB SERIES
Madres y Comadres (2011) was a culturally tailored community-outreach initiative created by Kmart to connect more meaningfully with Latina mothers. Built around trusted “comadres” — women who serve as advisors and connectors within their communities — the program offered practical parenting tips, product recommendations, and lifestyle content designed to reflect the values, traditions, and everyday realities of Hispanic families. By blending storytelling, guidance, and culturally resonant messaging, it aimed to position the retailer as a supportive, relatable presence in the lives of Latina moms.

DIGITAL MUSEUM EXHIBIT
Ciudades Durmientes (2020), presented at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO) during the Pandemic is an evocative exhibition that explores the hidden poetics of urban spaces after dark. Through its immersive atmosphere and thoughtful curation, Ciudades Durmientes invited audiences to reconsider the relationship between people and the built environment, highlighting the beauty, tension, and vulnerability that emerge when a metropolis sleeps.
The exhibit includes works by David Micolta, Andres Oyuela, Chino Lemus, Gerardo Sandoval and Alberto Ferreras.
